Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ) has introduced a bill (H.R. 3) that would effectively ban insurance coverage for abortion. PRCH Board Chair Douglas Laube, MD, MEd, submitted written testimony in opposition to H.R. 3 for a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on the Constitution. He provides patient stories to show how the Smith bill would jeopardize women's health.

For a hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Health, Dr. Laube submitted testimony against H.R. 358. Introduced by Representative Joseph Pitts (R-PA), this bill would severely limit abortion access in various ways, including by allowing hospitals to deny abortion to any woman at any time, even if remaining pregnant will threaten her life. To demonstrate the dangers in H.R. 358, Dr. Laube offers real cases of women who needed abortions to stay alive.
