Dr. Eugene Glick
January 13, 2010
Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health mourns the death of Eugene Glick, MD, medical director of the West End Women’s Medical Group, author of the vital textbook Surgical Abortion, and a longtime PRCH supporter. Dr. Glick started practicing medicine in Los Angeles in the 1960s and saw the pain and death caused by botched abortions. Despite the risk of going to jail and ruining his career, Dr. Glick began to perform “safe, comfortable abortions,” first for women he knew, then for others as the word spread.
Read his moving account of that period from the transcripts of Voices of Choice, our 2003 documentary about pre-Roe abortion providers.
We will miss Dr. Glick’s medical acumen, his bravery, and his compassion.

“[A]ll people, male and female, should have as much autonomy as possible and the best medical care feasible. That means caring and competent physicians in each community should provide abortions.”
William F. Harrison, MD, from “Why I Provide”
