Dr. Richard Hausknecht

Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health mourns the death of Richard Hausknecht, MD, one of our founders. An early pioneer in medication abortion and a major force behind the FDA's approval of mifepristone, Dr. Hausknecht devoted much of his time to teaching reproductive healthcare to young physicians. He became a doctor before Roe v. Wade, treating women who were injured from illegal abortions. That experience led him to dedicate his career to women's reproductive health. A dear friend and colleague as well as an innovator and scientist, Dr. Hausknecht will be greatly missed. Click here to make a donation in his name.
