HHS Moves to Revoke Conscientious Refusal Rule
February 27, 2009
PRCH board chair Suzanne T. Poppema, MD, issued a statement that was quoted by CNN applauding President Obama's decision to protect patients' health by revoking the Bush administration's conscientious refusal regulation. The regulation expanded federal protections for medical workers who objected to providing certain health services, including abortion and some forms of contraception. PRCH led a coalition of medical organizations who protested the proposed rule, and hundreds of PRCH physician members voiced their opposition during the public comment period in September 2008.
