Lift the Age Limit on Plan B
November 30, 2012
In the Los Angeles Times, Leadership Training Academy Fellow Caron Kim, MD, MSc, praises the new recommendation that physicians give teens advance prescriptions for emergency contraception -- a policy recently advanced by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
But Dr. Kim notes that this can only be a stop-gap measure as we push for the elimination of the age restriction on Plan B:
"This medically baseless rule forces the contraceptive behind the pharmacy counter, whose limited schedule can hinder teens with prescriptions and adults who can buy the medication without a prescription. Let's move emergency contraception to the open shelves, making it more accessible to everyone who needs it."
Help us recognize Eve Espey, MD, MPH, and Willie Parker, MD, MPH, MSc, at the 2013 Rashbaum-Tiller Abortion Provider Awards.

The documentary Voices of Choice features physicians and advocates who witnessed women's suffering before Roe v. Wade. They helped as many women as they could obtain safe abortions.

“I believe women shouldn’t have to explain to governments, religious groups, or the patriarchy at large that they’ve made a decision to deal with the condition of their own bodies.”
