Media Center: Health Care Reform
In March 2010, Congress approved far-reaching reforms to the U.S. health care system. The health reform law will expand access to health care for more than 30 million Americans. It ensures coverage of essential services like maternity care, contraception, and cancer screening. However, anti-choice politicians put women’s health at risk by limiting insurance coverage for abortions.
PRCH physicians can tell you about the dire consequences for women and their families when the full range of reproductive health services are not available, and why Congress must expand insurance coverage for abortion.
What Our Doctors Are Saying
“In my abortion clinic in Seattle, I saw many women who needed abortions because something was seriously wrong with the fetus, or their health was compromised by pregnancy. Where will these women turn if Congress denies them coverage?”
—PRCH board chair Suzanne Poppema, MD, The New York Times

“Regardless if abortion is legal or not, women still get them. The only difference is that where abortion is illegal, women get hurt or die.”
