National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers
March 10, 2011
Today we honor the doctors who risked their lives to provide abortions. March 10 is the day in 1993 when David Gunn, MD, was murdered by an anti-choice extremist. This year we think of him, George Tiller, MD, and all the others who lost their lives because they provided women and families with life-saving medical care.
Today we also pay tribute to the physicians who continue to provide abortion care. The blog Feministe is honoring this day with an interview with our board chair, Douglas Laube, MD, MEd. Dr. Laube talks about the stigma surrounding abortion provision and how we can protect reproductive health care from recent legislative attacks. Our immediate past board chair, Suzanna Poppema, MD, talked with the blog Jezebel about the need for abortion care and the next generation of providers.
To hear from other abortion providers about why they continue to serve women, read these personal accounts from physicians nationwide.
Today we ask you to join us in supporting these courageous doctors. Stand up for abortion providers and patients by adding your name to our Abortion Provider's Declaration of Rights. Donate to PRCH in honor of the abortion providers in your state.

Choice Words
“[A]ll people, male and female, should have as much autonomy as possible and the best medical care feasible. That means caring and competent physicians in each community should provide abortions.”
