Washington, DC, Vigil to Highlight Women’s Difficulties Getting Health Insurance, Coverage for Reproductive Care

New York, NY—Physicians will take part in a vigil for health reform tomorrow, sharing stories of patients who had difficulty getting needed medical care. The vigil is part of the Women’s Day of Action for Health Care Reform. Events across the country will highlight women’s need for health reform. Women often pay more than men for the same health coverage, while critical services like contraception and maternity care are excluded from insurance policies.

Sara Imershein, MD, a gynecologist and fellow with Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health (PRCH), will share some of her experiences caring for women in Washington, DC. She has treated many women who had to be hospitalized because they could not afford treatment for reproductive health problems like uterine fibroids. In addition to her personal experiences, Dr. Imershein will share stories from doctors around the country about their patients’ need for reform. A selection of these stories is available through PRCH’s website.
