Media Center: Press Release
New York, NY—Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health today released a statement from board chair Suzanne T. Poppema, MD, responding to three recent instances of vandalism against reproductive health and abortion clinics in New Mexico.
“Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health denounces the recent attacks on three abortion and reproductive health clinics in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As an organization of pro-choice physicians throughout the United States, we believe that all women deserve unfettered access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion. When clinics and doctors are under attack, women cannot get the healthcare they need and deserve.
“Thirty-five years ago, abortion was legalized in the United States. It is incredible to me that doctors continue to face threats to their practices and their lives. Dr. Curtis Boyd has been on the frontlines of reproductive healthcare since the 1960s, and this is not the first time that he has faced harassment and arson as a result of his work. As a former abortion provider myself, I extend my deepest sympathies to him and to the many women and men affected by the destruction of his clinic and the damage to two other health centers in Albuquerque.”
