Tell Congress: Protect Emergency Abortion Care
October 12, 2011
This week, the House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 358, introduced by Representative Joseph Pitts (R-Penn.). Tell your member of Congress that this bill would endanger women by allowing hospitals to refuse to provide life-saving abortions.
The legislation would also add to the already burdensome restrictions on insurance coverage for abortion under health reform. Email your representative now to stop the Pitts bill before it hurts women.
Read testimony submitted by PRCH board chair Douglas Laube, MD, MEd, to a House subcommittee against the Pitts bill. Dr. Laube includes stories from his colleagues about women who needed abortions to stay alive.
Today in a PRCH press release, our consulting medical director, Anne Davis, MD, MPH, tells a story about her patient who could have died if the Pitts bill were in effect. RH Reality Check quotes extensively from Dr. Davis's statement in its coverage of the legislation.

Choice Words
“Women do not enter into the decision to terminate a pregnancy lightly. Yes, there are women who use abortion as a method of birth control, and yes, they are rarer than hen’s teeth.”
